Golden Time of Day

Golden Time of Day

Its a fair June in DC. The low is about 60° and high ranges from 75-85°. Most folks drown in white wine & rosé during the summer but when the grill is lit, its time for red wine. This week, I had the pleasure of tasting a fantastic red from Santa Barbara County.

Hidden Asset - Red Wine

32.5% Malbec, 30% Merlot, 26% Syrah, 9% Petit Sirah, 2.5% Cabernet Franc

The nose on this wine is full of bright, red fruit like raspberry and pomegranate with spice & cocoa. This is what is going to spark intrigue before wine hits the taste buds. The aromas are complex and inviting.

On the palate, this wine is fruit forward and silky with a spicy lingering finish. Slightly jammy so its perfect for a juicy burger on a 70° night with Frankie Beverly and Maze in the background.

When the song, "Golden Time Time of Day" comes on at a cookout, that's when the magic of a Black summer happens. Adults lightly hand-dance or 2 step. Heads sway left to right. The "good" liquor, wine & food comes out. All the associates have left and the people left lingering, belong there.

"There's a time of the day, when the sun's going down, thats  the Golden time day"

Hidden Asset is perfect this moment of reflexion. You may have been slaving over the kitchen and dealing with ungrateful people all day but when this song comes on, it does something to your spirit. This song with your burger and this wine will make magic.

I would pair this red blend with sweet potatoes, red sauces or sloppy cookout burgers. You can also pair Hidden Asset with chocolate and a nice cigar and especially during that Golden Time of Day.

Cheers!
